Novus Hi-Tech and Eicher partner to launch mining safety systems
Novus Hi-Tech and Eicher Trucks have teamed up to roll out new safety systems for mining vehicles, aiming to meet regulatory requirements and improve safety in India's mining industry.
Novus Hi-Tech has partnered with Eicher Trucks and Buses to introduce safety solutions for mining vehicles, unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi. The systems comply with Directorate General of Mine Safety (DGMS) regulations and include driver monitoring, proximity warning, and automatic headlight control features.
The Driver Monitoring System uses artificial intelligence to track driver alertness and identify risks, while the radar-based Proximity Warning System provides collision alerts. The Auto Dipper System manages headlight intensity to improve visibility in low-light conditions.
Deep Kapuria, Chairman of Novus Hi-Tech, emphasized the company's focus on indigenous technology development, while Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO of VE Commercial Vehicles Limited (VECV), noted that the partnership aims to modernize India's commercial vehicle sector.
Novus Hi-Tech has installed 70,000 units of its safety systems across 20 vehicle models and holds over 100 patents. The company reports that its technology has helped prevent 200,000 accidents, based on analysis of 7 billion kilometers of driving data.
The collaboration comes as India's mining sector faces increased pressure to improve safety standards. The Ministry of Labour and Employment has been implementing stricter safety regulations for mining operations, making advanced monitoring systems increasingly important for mining vehicle operators.
VE Commercial Vehicles, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors established in 2008, has been expanding its presence in the mining sector. The company competes with manufacturers like Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland in India's commercial vehicle market, which has seen growing demand for vehicles equipped with safety technology.
