Nissan Motor India has launched the all-new Tekton at introductory prices ranging from ₹10.49 lakh to ₹18.59 lakh (ex-showroom), marking its return to India’s midsize SUV segment as it looks to expand beyond its single-product domestic portfolio and scale up volumes from its alliance with Renault's manufacturing base near Chennai.
The introductory prices are only for the first 10,000 customers.
The Tekton enters one of the country’s largest SUV sub-segments, where models including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Honda Elevate together account for monthly wholesales of around 50,000 units in the 4.2–4.4-metre midsize SUV category. For Nissan, which has relied largely on the Magnite for domestic sales in recent years, the launch fills a key gap in its product line-up at a time when SUVs continue to increase their share of India’s passenger vehicle market.
Company executives said the T160 engine has been spread across six variants rather than being limited to entry-level trims, enabling Nissan to address a wider range of price points within the segment. The line-up spans from the entry-level Visia T160 MT to the top-spec Tekna+ T280 DCT.
The introductory pricing places the Tekton within the core price band of the midsize SUV segment, with several variants positioned below comparable higher trims of established competitors such as the Creta and Seltos while overlapping their main petrol volume territory. Nissan said the focus was on offering a broader spread of price-feature combinations rather than concentrating solely on a low entry price.
The company has also introduced multiple ownership and customisation initiatives alongside the launch. The Tekton is available with four interior themes, 11 exterior colour options and more than 50 factory-backed accessory combinations aimed at buyers looking for higher levels of personalisation.
For the first 10,000 customers, Nissan is offering a five-year Nissan Care package comprising a 3+2-year warranty and five years of prepaid maintenance, with additional benefits for existing Nissan owners as part of the company’s loyalty initiative.
The Tekton is built at the Renault–Nissan Alliance facility at Oragadam near Chennai, operated by Renault Nissan Automotive India, and will cater to both domestic and export markets. Nissan plans to export the SUV to nearly 50 countries, primarily across the Middle East and Africa, as part of a broader Alliance strategy that positions India as a shared production and export base.
The launch follows the announcement of a €700 million investment programme for India by the Alliance partners, under which Nissan plans to introduce new products while increasing localisation and exports. Along with the recently introduced Gravite, the Tekton forms part of the brand’s effort to build a broader SUV portfolio in the country and move away from its image as a single-product player.
The model enters a segment characterised by intense competition and frequent product updates. While the Tekton extends Nissan’s presence into one of India’s highest-volume SUV categories, its market performance will depend on its ability to compete against established products backed by larger dealer networks, broader powertrain portfolios and stronger brand recognition.
