Nissan Motor India recorded domestic wholesale of 4,408 units in March 2026, a 98% month-on-month increase compared to the 2,230 units it sold in the domestic market in February. The company said this was its highest domestic monthly wholesale figure in five years. Total sales for the month, including exports, stood at 10,388 units, with exports contributing 5,980 units.

The growth was driven primarily by the start of customer deliveries of the Nissan Gravite, a new SUV whose market introduction had been announced in February but whose deliveries were held back until March 1. The addition of the Gravite to its retail pipeline gave the company a second volume driver in the domestic market alongside its existing model, the Nissan Magnite.

The March figures mark a notable shift in the domestic-export balance that had characterised Nissan India's recent performance. In February 2026, the company's total sales were 10,565 units, of which exports accounted for 8,335 units while domestic wholesale stood at just 2,230 — indicating that the business had been leaning heavily on overseas markets for volume. The start of Gravite deliveries appears to have altered that mix considerably in March, with domestic wholesale more than doubling even as total sales remained broadly comparable to the previous month.

Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, said March had been a defining month for the company in India. "The strong growth in domestic sales reflects the positive customer response to our product portfolio," he said. He added that the response to the Gravite reinforced the company's confidence in the opportunities ahead, and that Nissan would remain focused on strengthening its sales and service experience while expanding its network footprint to sustain long-term growth in India. He also acknowledged the role of the company's network partners and financing associates in supporting the performance.

The Gravite is the first of three products that Nissan has planned under what the company calls its India Resurgence plan, signalling an intent to rebuild its domestic presence after a period during which it had been operating with a single model in the Indian market. The Magnite, a compact SUV that has been Nissan India's sole domestic product for several years, continues to be retailed alongside the Gravite.

Beyond the domestic market, Nissan Motor India exports vehicles to 65 international destinations. The company crossed 1.2 million cumulative vehicle exports in 2025, placing it among India's larger passenger vehicle exporters. In February 2026, exports of 8,335 units had underlined how central the export business remained to the company's overall operations, even as domestic volumes were constrained ahead of the Gravite launch. With domestic sales picking up in March, the company appears to be moving towards a more balanced revenue mix between home and overseas markets.

Nissan Motor India Private Limited was incorporated in 2010 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., Japan. The parent company has been in the automotive industry for over nine decades and markets vehicles globally, including the Nissan Leaf, one of the world's earlier mass-market electric vehicles. Nissan Motor India currently operates over 280 customer touchpoints across India, a network it has said it intends to expand as part of its growth strategy in the country.
