Nirmal Minda Says Delhi EV Policy 2.0 Could Be a Model for States

ASSOCHAM President Nirmal Minda on Wednesday said the Delhi government's recently implemented EV Policy 2.0 could serve as a model for other states, while commending the Centre's policy measures aimed at strengthening India's electric mobility ecosystem.

Speaking at ASSOCHAM's National Conference on 'Building India an Electric Mobility Hub for Viksit Bharat', Minda said electric mobility represents far more than a technological shift, describing it as an opportunity to drive industrial growth, innovation, energy security, environmental stewardship and global competitiveness as India works towards its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

He complimented the Government of India for its policy commitment to building a globally competitive electric mobility ecosystem, highlighting initiatives such as the PM E-Drive scheme, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for automobiles and Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) batteries, and the rapid expansion of charging infrastructure. According to Minda, these measures are providing a strong push to the sector and helping create the foundation for future growth.

Minda also said closer collaboration between industry and government would be essential to strengthen India's manufacturing ecosystem and enhance global competitiveness. He noted that ASSOCHAM 2.0 has been aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision through its focus on Make in India, ease of doing business, MSME growth, digitalisation and sustainability.

The Delhi EV Policy 2.0 includes purchase incentives for eligible electric vehicles, measures to expand charging infrastructure, and provisions for a phased ban on registrations of certain new internal combustion engine vehicle categories beginning as early as next year. Referring to the policy, Minda said it could help position Delhi as a leading green mobility hub and serve as a model for other states.
