Toyota will unveil the heavily updated Hilux pickup truck on November 10, according to Toyota Thailand. The refreshed model, which could carry the Hilux Travo moniker, has been teased ahead of its global premiere and will bring significant design, tech and powertrain updates while continuing to be underpinned by the existing IMV ladder-frame platform.

The current, eighth-generation Hilux was introduced globally in 2015 and has received multiple minor facelifts over the years. However, the upcoming iteration appears to be its most comprehensive update yet. While Toyota seems to be extending the life of the current platform rather than developing an all-new model, the redesign and feature upgrades are expected to be extensive enough to keep the Hilux competitive for years to come.

Spy shots suggest that most of the visual changes will be concentrated at the front, with a completely revised fascia featuring slimmer headlamps positioned on the corners and seamlessly merging with the upper grille. Toyota could also replace its traditional badge with TOYOTA lettering across the nose, similar to the new Tacoma, Tundra, Land Cruiser Prado, and Land Cruiser FJ. The fenders will be reprofiled to match the new design, and the truck will gain new alloy wheel designs and tyres tailored to various terrains. At the rear, the Hilux will get restyled tail-lamps and a redesigned bumper, although the doors and glasshouse remain unchanged, which do suggest that this may not be an all-new model.

Inside, the cabin is expected to receive a major upgrade with new screens, improved materials, and additional tech. Under the hood, Toyota is likely to introduce mild-hybrid diesel variants across markets, while petrol options may or may not get the brand’s strong-hybrid setup.

The updated Hilux will continue on the IMV platform that underpins the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner. A derivative of the same platform is also used the recently revealed Land Cruiser FJ and Hilux Champ pickup which are also headed to India.
