Toyota Kirloskar Motor Launches Neo Drive 48V Variants for Fortuner and Legender
Toyota introduces segment-first 48-volt hybrid technology in premium SUV models with improved fuel efficiency and enhanced performance capabilities.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced the launch of Neo Drive 48V variants for its Fortuner and Legender models on June 2, 2025, in Bangalore. The new variants feature segment-first 48-volt hybrid technology designed to deliver improved fuel efficiency and enhanced driving performance. The Fortuner Neo Drive 48V is priced at Rs 44,72,000 while the Legender Neo Drive 48V costs Rs 50,09,000, both ex-showroom. Bookings commenced on June 2, 2025, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the third week of June.
The Neo Drive variants incorporate Toyota's 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine paired with a 48-volt system that includes a belt-integrated starter generator and lithium-ion battery. This hybrid assist technology provides smoother low-end acceleration, quieter operation, and improved fuel efficiency through regenerative braking during deceleration.
Speaking on the introduction of the Fortuner & Legender Neo Drive 48V variants, Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, said, "As the SUV market in India grows steadily, customers are seeking advanced features and differentiated styling, both the Fortuner and Legender rise to meet these expectations with their bold design, powerful performance and comprehensive features, catering seamlessly to the needs of diverse users.
Now, the introduction of the new Neo Drive 48V grade in both models marks yet another milestone in our journey. As segment first, it underscores our commitment to delivering ever-better cars that align with evolving customer lifestyles, while also reinforcing Toyota's multi-pathway approach toward carbon neutrality. Through practical, future-ready mobility solutions, we strive to enhance customer value and contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable tomorrow."
The new variants feature Smart Idle Start-Stop functionality that automatically switches off the engine when stationary to improve fuel efficiency in city traffic conditions. The Multi-Terrain Select system allows drivers to adjust traction and drive modes according to varying off-road conditions by intelligently modifying throttle response, braking, and traction control.
Both models retain their distinctive design characteristics, with the Fortuner maintaining its bold, purposeful appeal for off-road enthusiasts while the Legender offers a more premium presence through dual-tone body colours, split LED headlamps, and sleeker fascia design. Interior features include dual-tone leather upholstery, soft-touch materials, and ergonomic seating arrangements.
The Neo Drive variants include a 360-degree panoramic camera system for enhanced visibility during parking and tight manoeuvres, along with wireless smartphone charging capability. A Neo Drive badge identifies vehicles equipped with the hybrid system, symbolizing improved fuel efficiency and progressive performance.
Safety features remain comprehensive across both variants, including seven airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control with Brake Assist, Hill Assist Control, Traction Control System, and Child Restraint System. Additional safety equipment includes front row seatbelts with pre-tensioner and force limiter, speed auto lock with emergency unlock, and WIL Concept Seats.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor supports the new variants with tailored financing solutions including funding plans extending up to eight years with reduced EMI options, Toyota Smart Balloon Finance, and pre-approved Value-Added Services. The vehicles come with five years of complimentary roadside assistance and a standard three-year/100,000 km warranty that can be extended to five years/220,000 km, supplemented by the customizable Toyota Smiles Plus service package.
The Fortuner has maintained market leadership in the premium SUV segment since its 2009 debut, establishing a reputation for quality, durability, and reliability. Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi with a combined installed production capacity of up to 342,000 units annually.
