Company says India is a strategic market, localisation and regulation will drive rapid ADAS adoption.

Automotive technology company Mobileye sees India as a strategic market and is stepping up localisation to scale advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) across segments, a senior executive said at the 3rd edition of The ADAS Show organised by ARAI today.
Elie Luskin, VP for India and China at Mobileye, said the company is working with automakers and suppliers to adapt its systems to Indian roads and price points. He added that hands-off, eyes-on highway and urban driving functions could reach the market by 2027.
“India is a key market for us going forward. We are localising our ecosystem and working with OEMs to make ADAS usable and affordable here,” Luskin said. “By 2027, we believe hands-off, eyes-on driving on highways and in cities is possible in India.”
He said most ADAS systems in India already run on Mobileye chips. The company’s early strategy focused on reducing costs through vision-only systems using a single camera and dedicated chip.
“ADAS used to be very expensive and sensor-heavy. We showed it can be done with one camera and a cost-effective chip. That helped democratise the technology,” he said. “Today, we have about 70% global market share and a strong presence in India.”
Mobileye offers a scalable product portfolio. Entry-level systems use one camera and one chip that meet safety norms such as Euro NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Additional sensors like radar can be added for better performance and comfort features.
“OEMs can start with a basic system and scale up with more cameras and sensors. That helps bring ADAS to more price points,” Luskin said.
The company is also pushing higher-level systems such as SuperVision, which enables hands-off driving while the driver remains responsible. Luskin said the technology is already deployed in large numbers in China and Europe.
“We already have hundreds of thousands of vehicles with these systems on the road globally. The same approach can work in India with localisation and testing,” he said.
Mobileye’s Road Experience Management (REM) mapping technology is another focus area. It collects crowd-sourced data from vehicles to build maps for safer automated driving.
“We have millions of vehicles uploading data. This helps build detailed maps and improves decision-making for automated systems. We already have this running in India,” he said.
ADAS penetration in India remains low, estimated in the range of 2–10%, far behind China, Europe, and the US. Luskin said adoption will rise sharply once regulations come into force.
“India is behind in ADAS adoption today. But once regulation kicks in, the numbers will increase dramatically,” he said.
He pointed to upcoming safety mandates for commercial vehicles from 2027 and additional rules for passenger vehicles later in the decade. These could create demand for millions of ADAS systems annually.
Mobileye also expects rising vehicle prices and incomes to support adoption. The company estimates that by 2028, cars priced around $8,500 could start offering basic ADAS, with higher-level features moving into more expensive models.
“Customers are already asking for safety features. We see OEMs that push ADAS also gaining market share,” Luskin said.
He added that Mobileye is investing in local partnerships and engineering to tailor its systems to Indian driving conditions.
“India has tough road conditions. But we are up for the challenge. Our goal is to bring safer driving and make ADAS accessible across segments,” he said.
