Minda Corporation Limited honored with National Award for empowering persons with disabilities

Minda Corporation Limited has been honored with the President’s National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities 2024 under the category “Divyangjano Ke Liye Sarvashrestha Niyokta” (Best Employer for Persons with Disabilities). The award was presented by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

The recognition highlights the efforts of Spark Minda Foundation, a subsidiary of Minda Corporation Limited, through its initiative Saksham, launched in 2015. This initiative has benefited over 21,000 persons with disabilities (PwDs) by addressing their mobility, education, employment, and overall empowerment needs. To date, more than 1,200 PwDs are employed across Spark Minda Group factories.

Spark Minda Foundation has also established permanent centers in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand to provide skill training, assistive aids, and livelihood opportunities for PwDs. Additionally, the foundation organizes annual camps in regions such as Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh to extend its outreach.

The foundation has collaborated with over 35 government bodies, NGOs, and organizations to enhance employment and skill training opportunities for PwDs across India. Assistive aids such as prosthetics, orthotics, walkers, crutches, and wheelchairs are also distributed to promote greater independence.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarika Minda, Chairperson of Spark Minda Foundation, noted that the award reflects the organization’s approach to inclusivity and its ongoing efforts to empower persons with disabilities.

The award adds to the group’s previous recognitions, including those from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), and the CII-ITC Sustainability Award.
