Matter Aera 5000+ Launches in Mumbai with Geared Electric Motorbike
India’s first geared electric motorcycle arrives in Mumbai, featuring manual transmission, in-house EV tech, and a lifetime battery warranty as MATTER expands its footprint ahead of the festive season.
Electric mobility startup Matter has launched its Aera 5000+ geared electric motorcycle in Mumbai, marking its entry into one of India’s largest and fastest-moving urban markets. The launch follows earlier rollouts in Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Pune.
The Aera 5000+ features a 4-speed manual transmission, branded as HyperShift, which offers a riding experience similar to conventional petrol bikes while delivering the benefits of electric mobility. It is priced at ₹1,93,826 (ex-showroom Mumbai) and is now available for bookings on the company’s website.
Designed and built in India, the Aera 5000+ comes with a 5kWh battery pack that offers a certified range of up to 172 km. The battery is IP67-rated for resistance to water and dust. The electric motorbike also features a liquid-cooled powertrain to maintain consistent performance in hot or congested conditions.
Additional features include a 7-inch touchscreen dashboard with navigation, ride statistics, music controls, and wireless updates. Safety and rider comfort are supported through dual disc brakes with ABS, dual suspension, and park assist functionality. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 40 km/h in under 2.8 seconds.
Users can also access connected features via the MatterVerse mobile app, which includes live tracking, remote lock/unlock, ride history, and geo-fencing. A smart key enables keyless entry and ignition. The estimated running cost is 25 paise per kilometre, which could result in substantial savings for city riders.
Matter has also announced the opening of a new Experience Centre at Saki Naka Junction in Andheri, where prospective buyers can test ride the motorcycle and learn more about its features.
Founded in 2019 in Ahmedabad, Matter develops all components in-house—from the powertrain and gearbox to battery systems. The company holds over 75 granted patents and has filed more than 350 across various aspects of EV technology. Its flagship Aera has received several awards, including “EV Bike of the Year 2025” by ACKO Drive and recognition from Top Gear India and Outlook Business.
