Maruti Swift CNG launch on 12 September

Maruti Suzuki will introduce the CNG-powered Swift in our market sometime next week. Dealer sources tell us that price announcement will take place on September 12. The Swift CNG will be based on the latest-gen hatchback that went on sale with a petrol engine in May this year.

We expect the Swift CNG to be offered in multiple trim, although it remains to be seen if Maruti will offer the CNG option on the top-spec variants. The Swift CNG will be powered by the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z12E engine that debuted on the new-gen hatchback, and it will be the first time this engine is paired with CNG. There are more Maruti models in the pipeline that will use the Z12E engine and its CNG-powered iterations.

We expect the price of the Swift CNG to be around Rs 80,000 to Rs 90,000 higher than that of the equivalent petrol-powered variants.

With the Swift CNG, Maruti would be looking to increase sales of CNG-powered models across the country. Currently, 34 percent of its total sales come from CNG models. Sales of Maruti’s CNG models have grown by 37 percent compared to last year. Maruti currently holds a substantial 73 percent share of the total CNG cars and SUVs sold in India. Maruti Suzuki aims to sell over 6 lakh CNG vehicles in FY25, matching the entire market's CNG sales in FY24.
