Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the Baleno facelift on September 5, bringing the first major update to the second generation premium hatchback introduced in 2022.
India's largest carmaker has been betting big on entry level small cars and hatchbacks while most if the rivals are focusing purely in SUVs. The Baleno has been one of the most successful models in the premium hatchback segment.
The existing Baleno is priced between Rs 5.99-9.14 lakh and competes with the Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20 and its rebadged sister the Toyota Glanza.
While Maruti is yet to reveal complete details, test vehicles have indicated changes to the exterior and cabin.
The facelifted Baleno is expected to receive a redesigned front fascia, with the grille likely to feature a horizontal bar connecting the headlights.
The boomerang shaped LED daytime running lights are expected to remain unchanged, while the front bumper is likely to be revised. Test vehicles have also been spotted without the front fog lamps seen on the current model.
Changes to the side profile are expected to be limited to a new alloy wheel design. At the rear, the bumper could receive minor revisions, while the existing tail-lamp design, roof-mounted spoiler and rear wiper are expected to be retained.
The cabin is also likely to retain the current dashboard layout and 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Maruti could, however, introduce revised upholstery along with a single-pane sunroof and ambient lighting, features that are available on some of the Baleno's rivals. The powertrain line-up is likely to remain unchanged.
The Baleno facelift is expected to continue with the 90hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated K12 petrol engine, paired with either a five-speed manual or five-speed AMT. The CNG version will also continue with the manual gearbox.
