Maruti Suzuki Ships 2,900 e VITARA Electric Vehicles to 12 European Countries
First exports of Suzuki's battery electric vehicle manufactured at Gujarat facility began in August
Maruti Suzuki India Limited commenced exports of 2,900 units of the e VITARA, Suzuki's first battery electric vehicle, to 12 European countries in August 2025, marking India's entry into the global electric vehicle export market from its manufacturing facility in Gujarat.
The shipments departed from Pipavav Port in Gujarat and were destined for the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium. The exports represent the first international sales of the e VITARA, which is exclusively manufactured at Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur plant in Gujarat.
The export milestone follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Gujarat manufacturing facility on August 26, where he commemorated the start of e VITARA production and recognized Maruti Suzuki as a brand ambassador of the 'Make in India' initiative.
Global Production Strategy
The e VITARA export program forms part of Suzuki's strategy to establish India as the global production hub for the electric vehicle. The company plans to export the 'Made in India' e VITARA to over 100 countries while also serving the domestic market.
Built on Suzuki's new electric vehicle platform called HEARTECT-e, the e VITARA represents the company's first dedicated battery electric vehicle offering. The platform has been designed specifically for electric powertrains, marking a departure from conventional internal combustion engine architectures.
"The Hon'ble Prime Minister's recognition of Maruti Suzuki as a brand ambassador of 'Make in India' is the highest possible honour we could think of. The start of export of e VITARA to Europe is indeed a proud and defining moment for us. To delight customers in over 100 countries, the product has to be truly world class in terms of technology, design, safety and performance. Built on an all-new electric vehicle (EV) platform, HEARTECT-e, the e VITARA features a design that combines a sense of advanced technology and strength. We are sure that with a nimble and sharp driving experience, it will delight customers in Europe," said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
