Maruti Suzuki Recalls 39,506 Grand Vitara SUVs Over Fuel Gauge Fault

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has issued a recall for 39,506 units of its Grand Vitara SUV after identifying a potential defect in the vehicle’s fuel level indicator and warning system.

In a regulatory filing on November 14, the country’s largest carmaker said the affected vehicles were manufactured between December 9, 2024, and April 29, 2025. According to the company, the fuel level indicator and warning light in the speedometer assembly may not accurately display the fuel status, which could mislead drivers about the remaining fuel in the tank.

MSIL stated that it will contact owners of the affected vehicles directly. Customers will be asked to visit authorized Maruti Suzuki dealer workshops for an inspection and replacement of the faulty component. The company confirmed that the rectification will be carried out free of cost.

The recall has been initiated as a precautionary step, and MSIL has urged customers to respond promptly to the communication from dealer workshops to ensure continued safe operation of their vehicles.

This is the latest in a series of quality-control measures taken by automakers in India as part of the voluntary recall code adopted by the industry.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is the country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, known for its wide network, high localisation, and focus on reliability and value-driven products. The company has been expanding its SUV portfolio in recent years to strengthen its presence in higher-growth segments.

The Grand Vitara is Maruti Suzuki’s flagship compact SUV, co-developed with Toyota, and positioned as a premium offering in the midsize SUV market. It features hybrid powertrain options, all-wheel drive availability, and a strong feature set aimed at urban and family buyers. The model has become a key pillar of the company’s strategy to move upmarket.
