Maruti Suzuki India Limited has become the first passenger vehicle manufacturer in India to cross 3 crore cumulative domestic sales, achieving the milestone 42 years after delivering its first car to a customer.

The company reached its first crore sales mark in 28 years and 2 months. The pace accelerated significantly thereafter, with the second crore achieved in 7 years and 5 months, while the most recent crore was completed in just 6 years and 4 months.

Alto emerged as the bestselling model in the company's history with over 47 lakh units sold, followed by Wagon R with more than 34 lakh units and Swift with over 32 lakh units. Brezza and Fronx also rank among the top 10 most sold vehicles in the portfolio.

Maruti Suzuki's journey began on December 14, 1983, when the iconic Maruti 800 was handed over to its first customer. The company currently offers over 170 variants across 19 models with multiple powertrain and transmission options.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, acknowledged the achievement while noting significant growth potential ahead. "When I look at the length and breadth of India and think that 3 crore customers have placed their trust in Maruti Suzuki to realize their dream of mobility, it fills me with humility and gratitude," he said.

Takeuchi pointed to India's car penetration rate of approximately 33 vehicles per 1,000 people, indicating substantial room for expansion. He emphasized the company's commitment to bringing mobility to more people while contributing to the economy and environment.
