Maruti Suzuki India Limited has set up an Advanced Manufacturing Lab (AML) at Government ITI Hassangarh in Rohtak, Haryana, as part of its CSR-driven skill development programme. The lab, inaugurated on 26 May 2026, is intended to provide students with hands-on training aligned with current automobile industry requirements, bridging the gap between classroom instruction and workplace practice.
The facility replicates shop-floor conditions found in manufacturing plants and covers training in assembly, welding, painting, machining, mechatronics, and safety. The curriculum is structured to build technical competence and improve job readiness among ITI students. Approximately 200 students are expected to receive training in the lab during its first year of operation.
The inauguration was attended by Sachin Gupta, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak, alongside senior officials from Maruti Suzuki and the institute. During the event, offer letters were distributed to select students who will join the company as apprentices upon completing their courses, reflecting a direct pipeline between the training programme and employment at the automaker.
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said the lab brings real shop-floor learning and modern machinery into classrooms, and is intended to equip students with the ability to handle industry-specific processes within the automotive sector.
Sachin Gupta described the lab as a milestone in Rohtak's skill development efforts, noting that it aligns academic training with the requirements of modern industry. He added that the facility could contribute to building a workforce capable of supporting India's broader industrial growth.
Maruti Suzuki currently supports 31 Industrial Training Institutes across India in manufacturing-related trades and has established 18 such Advanced Manufacturing Labs nationwide to date. The Hassangarh lab is the latest addition to this network. The company also provides merit-based scholarships to the top five students at each supported ITI, as an incentive for academic performance.
Beyond ITIs, the company operates four Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs) — located in Mehsana and Gandhinagar in Gujarat, and Manesar and Sonipat in Haryana. Established under a bilateral initiative between the governments of India and Japan, JIMs offer training in advanced manufacturing techniques and shop-floor management based on Japanese industrial practices, along with soft skills intended to improve overall industry readiness.
The Hassangarh lab is part of a broader national effort under the Government of India's Skill India mission, which seeks to align vocational education with the needs of the country's growing manufacturing sector. India's ITI network serves as a key channel for training young workers in trades relevant to industries such as automotive, engineering, and construction. Initiatives by private companies to upgrade ITI infrastructure have been encouraged under this framework as part of public-private collaboration in workforce development.
