Maruti Suzuki March 2026 Production Rises 19% Year-on-Year, UVs Lead Growth

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reported a strong production performance for March 2026, with total output rising sharply year-on-year, reflecting robust consumer demand and expanding model offerings across segments.

The country's largest carmaker produced a grand total of 2,31,933 units in March 2026, up from 1,94,901 units in the same month last year — a jump of nearly 19% year-on-year.

The standout story of the month was the utility vehicle segment, which saw the most dramatic growth. Maruti's UV lineup — comprising the Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Jimny, Invicto, XL6, and OEM models — churned out 1,02,622 units in March 2026, compared to just 72,158 units a year ago. That translates to a year-on-year surge of over 42%, underscoring the ongoing shift in Indian consumer preference toward SUVs and crossovers. Notably, the recently launched e Vitara, the company's first electric SUV, is now part of this segment count, signaling Maruti's push into electric mobility.

On the passenger car side, Maruti continued to hold its ground. The Mini sub-segment, anchored by the Alto and S-Presso, produced 19,862 units, up from 15,167 units in March 2025 — a growth of about 31%. The Compact sub-segment, which includes high-volume models like the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR, contributed 92,421 units versus 90,602 units last year, a more modest but steady uptick.

Together, the Mini and Compact sub-segments accounted for 1,12,283 units, compared to 1,05,769 units in March 2025. One notable change in the mix: the mid-size Ciaz, which had 1,498 units to its name in March 2025, recorded zero production this year, confirming the model's exit from Maruti's active lineup.

Total passenger car production stood at 1,12,283 units for the month.

The Eeco, Maruti's workhorse van popular in both personal and commercial use, saw production tick up to 13,037 units from 11,755 units a year ago. Combined with passenger cars and utility vehicles, total passenger vehicle output for the month reached 2,27,942 units, up from 1,91,180 units in March 2025 — a year-on-year increase of around 19%.

The light commercial vehicle segment, represented solely by the Super Carry mini truck, added 3,991 units to the tally, modestly higher than the 3,721 units produced in March 2025.

March is typically the strongest production month of the fiscal year for automakers, as companies ramp up to meet year-end demand. Maruti's performance this March suggests the company is closing out FY2025-26 on a high note, with volumes broadly ahead of the prior year across nearly all segments. The rapid scaling of the utility vehicle portfolio appears to be a key structural driver of this growth, even as the traditional passenger car segments remain resilient.

With the e Vitara now in production and consumer sentiment around personal mobility remaining firm, Maruti Suzuki appears well-positioned heading into the new financial year.
