Amid a strong export push, India’s largest passenger vehicle maker, Maruti Suzuki India, has exceeded its export target set for the full financial year 2026 within the first 11 months of the year.
In the April-February period, Maruti Suzuki’s exports jumped 33.7% year-on-year to 400,734 vehicles. At the beginning of this financial year, the company had set a target of 4 lakh units for exports this fiscal.
“We are very happy to share that we were able to complete our annual export target of 4 lakh units within the first 11 months itself. And March will be extra,” said Maruti Suzuki Senior Executive Director for Corporate Affairs, Rahul Bharti.
The automaker’s top export models include the Fronx, Baleno, Swift, Dzire and Jimny, with Africa, Japan, Chile, Saudi Arabia and Mexico among its key overseas markets.
The company said its export portfolio remains geographically diversified, with shipments spanning around 100 countries. Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia continue to be its largest regions by volume.
Japan has also emerged as a significant growth market following the recent introduction of the Fronx and Jimny. It has become the company’s second-largest export destination, contributing to incremental volumes.
Bharti said that until January, exports from other Indian automakers grew 7%, while Maruti Suzuki’s shipments rose 31.8% over the same period. The growth rate further improved to 33.7% through February, he added.
A large part of Maruti Suzuki’s first battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, which was launched in September, is being exported. The introduction of the e-Vitara in exports has brought incremental volume for the automaker.
“One of the highlights of exports is, of course, the e-Vitara. More than 21,000 units have been exported to 39 countries. The top countries are the UK, Norway, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, and that’s a long list,” Bharti said.
Industry data for February is yet to be released. As per SIAM’s April–January data, passenger vehicle exports from India rose 17.6% year-on-year to 7.48 lakh units, with Maruti accounting for more than half of it.
Hyundai is the second-largest passenger vehicle exporter from India, followed by Nissan. Exports account for around 18% of Maruti Suzuki’s total volume.
