Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG: Engine and Gearbox
The XUV 3XO CNG uses the SUV’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged MPFi petrol engine. Mahindra has optimised the turbocharger calibration and ECU mapping, alongside a 10-bar CNG injection system, to maintain the same power and torque outputs in both fuel modes.
The engine produces 111hp and 200Nm on both petrol and CNG. A six-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission option for the CNG variants, unlike the petrol range, which also offers an automatic transmission. Mahindra claims a 0-100kph time of 11.8 seconds in CNG mode and a fuel efficiency figure of 24.7km/kg.
Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG: Exterior and Interior
The XUV 3XO CNG looks largely identical to its petrol and diesel counterparts. The main exterior distinction is a ‘ZNG’ badge on the tailgate, with ZNG being Mahindra’s shorthand for ‘zing’.
Inside, the CNG switch positioned to the right of the steering wheel is the main visual difference. The twin-cylinder setup fitted underneath reduces boot capacity to 270 litres.
The range is available in MX Edge, RevX Edge (O), AX5 and RevX A trims. Although the CNG range does not extend to the very top of the XUV 3XO line-up, the fully equipped RevX A gets dual 10.25-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette seats, a six-speaker sound system and dual-zone climate control. Other features include a tyre pressure monitoring system, LED headlamps and tail-lamps, and six airbags.
Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG: Rivals
The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG competes with CNG-powered compact SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon.
Its key differentiator is the ability to deliver the same claimed power and torque outputs on petrol and CNG, alongside a turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual gearbox.
