Mahindra Launches BE 6 SPORTEQ Electric SUV Starting at ₹11.45 Lakh

Mahindra on Friday launched the BE 6 SPORTEQ, a new series within its electric SUV range, priced from ₹11.45 lakh (ex-showroom) under a Battery as a Service (BaaS) model. The announcement was made in Mumbai on 15 August 2026, with deliveries scheduled to begin on 26 August — coinciding with the Onam festival. The series spans eight variants — ONE, TWO, THREE, THREE+, FOUR, FE, FE FOUR, and a Launch Edition — and is offered across three battery sizes: 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh.

Pricing and Battery as a Service

The BaaS pricing of ₹11.45 lakh applies to the entry-level 59 kWh ONE variant, with the battery charged separately at ₹3.75 per kilometre, a figure Mahindra has calculated on the basis of 60 km of daily usage. Without BaaS, the same variant carries a price of ₹19.45 lakh. The TWO variant follows at ₹12.95 lakh (BaaS) or ₹20.95 lakh (without). The THREE variant, available with 59 kWh or 70 kWh batteries, starts at ₹21.95 lakh and ₹22.95 lakh respectively. The THREE+ moves to ₹23.95 lakh (70 kWh) and ₹24.95 lakh (79 kWh), while the FOUR, Launch Edition, and FE FOUR are all priced at ₹26.95 lakh with the 79 kWh battery. The Formula E Freedom Edition starts at ₹24.45 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom and exclude the cost of a home wall charger and its installation.

BaaS, as a financing model, separates the upfront cost of the vehicle from the battery — effectively reducing the purchase price while tying battery costs to usage. The model has been explored by several EV manufacturers globally as a way to make electric vehicles more accessible to first-time buyers concerned about battery replacement costs.

Design and Variants

The SPORTEQ series introduces 12 exterior colour options, including four new additions: Rosso Impulso, Ruby Velvet, Graphite Storm, and Firestorm Orange Satin. The latter two are available in satin finishes, reflecting a growing trend among Indian carmakers toward matte and satin paint options in the premium segment.

From the TWO variant upwards, the cabin is fitted with a three-screen coast-to-coast display, replacing the dual-screen layout of the original BE 6. Mahindra has positioned the three-screen cockpit as a key differentiator within the range, though buyers who prefer the original layout can opt for the Formula E Freedom Edition, which retains the two-screen design along with a halo display element unique to that edition.

The Launch Edition, positioned at the top of the standard range at ₹26.95 lakh, features an exclusive Graphite Storm exterior paired with a Racing Tan leatherette interior — a combination not available on any other variant.

Software and AI Features

Central to the SPORTEQ series is MAIA — Mahindra's Artificial Intelligence Architecture — which the company describes as the foundation of its Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) strategy. MAIA powers six onboard software suites collectively called TEQ Suites, each covering a different aspect of the driving and ownership experience.

TEQ_Talk is the vehicle's primary voice interface, built in collaboration with Google and running on the Gemini AI model. The system supports over 100 core functions and 48 applications, spanning vehicle controls, navigation, music, and news. Mahindra says it operates through 17 specialised AI agents, allowing for more contextual and natural language interactions than conventional voice assistants.

TEQ_Play covers in-car entertainment and includes karaoke, an in-car gaming suite with bring-your-own-device (BYOD) support, private audio, and Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos compatibility. Mahindra claims to be the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India to offer both karaoke and in-car gaming as factory-fitted features.

TEQ_Drive handles performance and dynamics settings. It includes a custom drive mode, a drift mode, a feature called Tribe Drive — which appears to be aimed at group driving experiences — and a Revive function designed to help drivers manage low-charge situations. The Formula E Freedom Edition also gains an exclusive Acceleration Boost mode through this suite.

TEQ_Me focuses on personalisation, including user profile detection. TEQ_Secure adds safety and security features, including Secure360 Pro — a live cabin monitoring system with audio relay and intrusion alerts — and a digital car key ecosystem that works across iPhone, Apple Watch, Android devices, and Samsung smartphones, as well as NFC key cards. Mahindra says this makes the BE 6 SPORTEQ the first Indian production vehicle to offer Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC)-compliant digital car key functionality across multiple device ecosystems. Finally, TEQ_xting allows owners to display personalised messages on the vehicle's tailgate.

Mahindra has confirmed that all new software features introduced with the SPORTEQ series will be rolled out to existing BE 6, XEV 9e, and XEV 9S owners through over-the-air (OTA) updates, in phases beginning January 2027. The specific features available to each vehicle will vary depending on the model and variant.

Formula E Freedom Edition

The Formula E Freedom Edition is the most performance-oriented variant in the range. It draws directly on Mahindra Racing's participation in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, translating visual and performance elements from the motorsport programme into a road car. The exterior features the original BE 6 headlamp design alongside subtle tricolour accents, and the interior adopts a Black and Firestorm Orange colour scheme.

Performance-wise, the Acceleration Boost mode — exclusive to this edition — delivers a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 6.44 seconds. The edition will be displayed alongside the Mahindra Racing team's car at the upcoming London E-Prix.

Mahindra Racing has had a competitive Formula E season, with victories in Monaco and Tokyo and four pole positions for driver Edoardo Mortara — a record-equalling tally for the team. The Freedom Edition is available in satin colours including the new Rosso Impulso.

The BE 6, on which the SPORTEQ series is based, was first launched in November 2024. It is produced by Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. The launch of the SPORTEQ series comes at a time of growing competition in India's electric SUV segment, with multiple manufacturers — including Tata Motors, Hyundai, and MG Motor — expanding their EV portfolios.
