Kobelco Construction Equipment India Produces 20,000th Excavator, Expands R&D Operations

The company has reached a production milestone at its Sri City facility and is enhancing its research and development capabilities with a new center focused on technology development, product customization, and market-specific solutions.

Kobelco Construction Equipment India (KCEI), a subsidiary of Japan-based Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., has reached a production milestone with the rollout of its 20,000th excavator from its manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The plant serves both domestic and international markets, reinforcing India's role in the company’s global operations.  

In addition to its production expansion, KCEI is strengthening its R&D operations with a new facility in Sri City. The center will focus on advanced engineering solutions, product customization, and technology development to meet diverse market requirements. The initiative aims to bolster India's position as a hub for manufacturing and innovation within Kobelco’s global framework.  

KCEI manufactures a range of excavators in India, with an annual production capacity of 3,000 units. The company supplies its products to domestic customers and exports to more than 16 countries.

Kobelco Construction Equipment India (KCEI) is a subsidiary of Japan-based Kobelco Construction Machinery Co. and operates in the Indian construction equipment market. The company focuses on manufacturing and supplying excavators to meet the needs of domestic and international markets. Its manufacturing facility, located in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, plays a key role in Kobelco’s production network.  

In addition to manufacturing, KCEI is involved in research and development activities aimed at improving technology and product design. The company is establishing a new R&D facility in Sri City to enhance engineering solutions and develop products suited for different market requirements. This initiative is expected to support innovation and strengthen India’s role in Kobelco’s global operations.  

Kobelco’s presence in India aligns with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, focusing on local manufacturing and product customization. The company works with a network of dealers and service centers to provide after-sales support and spare parts availability across the country.
