Kinetic Watts & Volts Ltd. (KWV), an electric vehicle manufacturer based in Pune, is evaluating expansion into seven international markets as it looks to extend its operations beyond India. The company has identified Turkey, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kenya, Nigeria, and Egypt as initial targets, with assessments currently underway covering regulatory environments, customer requirements, market potential for electric two-wheelers, and possible distribution partnerships.

The move marks a shift in the company's strategic priorities, as KWV transitions from consolidating its domestic footprint to simultaneously exploring international opportunities. The seven markets span three distinct geographies — Turkey as a European entry point, South Asian neighbours Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, and three African markets in Kenya, Nigeria, and Egypt. The selection appears to reflect a mix of proximity to India, developing EV ecosystems, and demand potential in markets where affordable two-wheelers are a primary mode of transport.

To lead the international push, KWV has appointed Makarand Joshi as head of international business development. Joshi brings more than two decades of experience developing overseas markets for Indian automotive products, with exposure across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. His background spans multiple vehicle segments, including two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and tractors, as well as distribution network development and international market entry strategies.

The international move comes as the company continues to scale its domestic operations. KWV currently runs 45 exclusive showrooms across India and expects an additional 40 outlets to become operational within the next two months. The company has also issued 150 Letters of Intent to prospective dealership partners, a figure it points to as an indicator of market interest in the Kinetic EV proposition. Building a reliable domestic dealer network is widely seen as a prerequisite for Indian EV manufacturers looking to establish credibility before entering overseas markets.

Ajinkya Firodia, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Kinetic Watts & Volts, said the company's products were designed with a broad range of markets in mind and that domestic momentum had placed the company in a position to begin laying the groundwork for international operations. He indicated that the focus would be on identifying the right markets, partnerships, and distribution structures before committing to entry.

KWV was established in September 2022 as the dedicated EV manufacturing subsidiary of Kinetic Engineering Limited (BSE: 500240), the flagship entity of the Kinetic Group. It operates an 87,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and focuses on electric two-wheelers positioned around accessibility and urban mobility. The subsidiary was set up to give Kinetic's EV ambitions a dedicated operational and manufacturing structure, separate from the group's broader engineering and components business.

Its parent company, Kinetic Engineering Limited, has been active in India's automotive sector for over five decades and supplies components to major original equipment manufacturers including Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, Renault, and Sonalika Tractors, among others. The group's long-standing presence in the automotive supply chain gives KWV an established industrial base from which to support its expansion plans.

The global electric two-wheeler market has attracted growing interest from Indian manufacturers in recent years, with several domestic players exploring exports to markets in Southeast Asia, Africa, and parts of Europe, where fuel costs, urban congestion, and improving charging infrastructure are driving demand for affordable electric mobility options.
