Kia India Conducts Nationwide Sustainability Drive on World Environment Day

The campaign spans over 500 workshops and corporate offices across India, targeting collection of 1,000 kilograms of e-waste at 31 locations, alongside emission checks, plantation drives, and renewable energy awareness sessions for customers and employees.

Kia India has initiated a nationwide sustainability campaign spanning its 500-plus workshop network and corporate offices during the first week of June, coinciding with World Environment Day. The automaker's activities span e-waste collection, vehicle emission checks, tree plantation drives, and renewable energy awareness programmes.

Central to the campaign is an e-waste collection drive, under which participating Kia workshops have been designated as authorised drop-off centres for discarded electronic items. The company has set a collection target of over 1,000 kilograms of e-waste across 31 locations. Alongside this, workshops are offering complimentary vehicle emission checks to customers and hosting sessions focused on vehicle performance and its environmental impact.

Kia India is also organising specialised training for workshop technicians on the proper handling, storage, and disposal of used engine oil — an effort the company says is aimed at improving waste management standards across its service network. Sapling distribution and plantation drives are being carried out at multiple locations as part of the company's ecological conservation efforts.

Bhimsen Gulabani, Vice President – Customer Experience at Kia India, described sustainability as an ongoing operational priority rather than a seasonal effort. He noted that the company's extensive workshop network provides regular touchpoints with customers, which the brand intends to use to encourage responsible environmental behaviour at scale.

The campaign also highlights Kia India's existing clean energy footprint. The company currently operates 132 Green Workshops across its network, which together generate 9.8 MW of solar power. The initiative forms part of broader energy conservation activities being promoted across Kia's facilities, including awareness drives on efficient power use and renewable energy adoption.

Atul Sood, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, stated that sustainability is integrated across Kia India's value chain, from its dealer network to its manufacturing plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. He pointed to renewable energy adoption, resource-efficient operations, and water conservation measures at the facility — including systems that enable the reuse of treated wastewater — as evidence of the company's longer-term environmental commitments.

Kia India, which commenced manufacturing operations in August 2019, currently has an installed annual production capacity of 300,000 units and a retail presence spanning 891 touchpoints across 402 cities. The company has recorded over 1.5 million domestic vehicle sales to date, with more than 3.67 lakh units exported.
