JSW Motors’ iCaur V23-based Electric SUV Design Patented
The India-spec electric SUV gets a revised grille and alloy wheels, while a panoramic sunroof and dual-motor AWD setup are also expected.
JSW Motors’ upcoming electric SUV based on the Chery iCaur V23 has had its design patented in India. While the overall design remains close to the international-spec model, the patent images reveal several changes to the exterior of the JSW-badged version.
The India-spec SUV is also expected to share its basic interior design with the international model. Sources suggest that JSW Motors could offer the SUV with a dual-motor AWD setup in India, with the model likely to be positioned as an electric off-roader.
Revised exterior design
The patent images show that the JSW Motors version retains the boxy silhouette of the Chery iCaur V23, along with its circular LED headlights, LED DRLs, black surrounds, side steps and flared wheel arches.
However, there are some visual differences. The closed-off grille has been redesigned, while the front bumper appears unchanged from the international model. The side profile gets a different alloy wheel design. Another noticeable change is a rectangular element between the C- and D-pillars, which is not present on the international-spec iCaur V23.The patent images also reveal a panoramic sunroof, a feature not available on the international model. At the rear, the design appears to remain unchanged, including the slim LED tail-lights and tailgate-mounted storage box.
Interior expected to remain largely unchanged
The JSW Motors-badged SUV is expected to retain the international model’s basic cabin design.
The iCaur V23 features a minimalist dashboard with no conventional driver’s display. Instead, instrumentation is displayed on the 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system.Other elements include a three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls and rotary controls below the touchscreen for functions such as drive modes, audio and climate control. The SUV has a five-seat layout and leatherette upholstery.
The India-spec model could receive a different cabin theme and fresh seat upholstery, although major changes to the dashboard design are not expected.
AWD version likely for India
Internationally, the Chery iCaur V23 is offered with two battery options: 59.93kWh and 81.76kWh.
The smaller battery is paired with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 134hp and 180Nm, while the larger battery is offered with a dual-motor AWD setup producing 208hp and 292Nm.The smaller battery has an NEDC-claimed range of 360km, while the larger unit claims 430km.
Autocar India’s sources suggest the India-spec JSW Motors version could use the dual-motor AWD setup. JSW Motors is expected to position the electric SUV against models such as the Mahindra Thar Roxx and Force Gurkha 5-door, with an expected price of around Rs 20 lakh.
