Jeep Confirms India EV Plans, Puts 4x4 at Heart of Expansion
Electric offering planned as the brand seeks to preserve four-wheel-drive capability across its future range.
Jeep plans to introduce an electric vehicle in India and is seeking to offer four-wheel-drive variants across its future range as it expands into more segments.
Shailesh Hazela, Managing Director and CEO of Stellantis India, confirmed the electric offering in an interview. “It would be part of our offers, which we have,” he said.
Autocar India understands that a B-segment Jeep EV is planned on Tata Motors’ ARGOS architecture as part of the platform partnership between the companies. Hazela did not confirm the platform details or disclose a launch date.
Asked whether every future Jeep product would offer at least one four-wheel-drive variant, Hazela said: “That would be our effort to get everything because that’s the Jeep DNA.”
The statement signals an intention rather than a firm commitment across every model. He did not specify whether the planned electric Jeep would offer four-wheel drive.
“Jeep is a global brand, global philosophy, global DNA, global design principle. Everything will be global. And the only thing is that what we are going to do is leveraging all that in India,” Hazela said.
Jeep’s expansion will cover the B, C and D segments, alongside a D-segment pickup. Indian engineering and sourcing will play a greater role in achieving competitive costs while retaining the brand’s positioning.
“Keeping the premiumness, keeping the DNA, but using it, the local ingredients, what we have. Make it for India, succeed in India, and then obviously the world is ours,” he said.
The plans form part of Stellantis’ seven new products and five refreshes across Jeep and Citroen by 2030. The programme begins in Q2 2027, though the electric Jeep’s place in that schedule remains undisclosed.
