ICEMA Welcomes PMGSY-III Extension till 2028
The Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers' Association has backed the government's decision to extend the rural road scheme, citing benefits for connectivity, employment and economic growth.
The Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers' Association (ICEMA) has welcomed the Government of India's decision to extend the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana III (PMGSY-III) until March 2028, calling the move a positive step toward strengthening rural infrastructure across the country.
The extension is aimed at upgrading key rural routes that connect habitations with markets, healthcare institutions, schools and nearby towns. Improved road quality is expected to ease the movement of people and goods, while also enabling faster access to medical facilities and essential urban services in rural areas.
ICEMA noted that the programme carries significance beyond economic activity, with potential implications for broader human development indicators in rural regions. The association also pointed to the scheme's structured, data-driven approach to road selection and upgradation as a factor likely to improve the overall effectiveness of investments made under the programme.
Deepak Shetty, President of ICEMA, said the extension would deepen rural connectivity and improve access to essential services including healthcare, education, markets and employment centres. He added that from an industry standpoint, PMGSY-III plays an important role in sustaining infrastructure momentum, supporting employment and strengthening supply chains.
Shetty further stated that large-scale road development drives economic activity and contributes to balanced regional growth, while reinforcing India's broader infrastructure and development objectives. He said the construction equipment industry remains committed to supporting the programme through efficient and timely execution of projects on the ground.
