Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) posted domestic sales of 7,585 units in March 2026, a 5% increase from the 7,228 units sold in the same month the previous year. The result offers a degree of relief after a difficult February, and closes out the fiscal year on a relatively positive note for the company's domestic business. However, the export picture remained weak, with the company shipping 2,451 units overseas during March, compared to 4,656 units in the same month last year — a decline of nearly 47%.
The March performance stands in contrast to the previous month's numbers. In February 2026, HCIL reported total sales of 7,212 units, a 30% decline compared to 10,323 units in February 2025. Domestic sales in February stood at 5,629 units, a marginal rise of 0.2% over the same month last year, while exports fell 66% to 1,583 units from 4,707 units a year ago. The sharp drop in exports has been a consistent pressure point for the company over recent months, even as domestic demand has held relatively steady.
The company attributed the March domestic growth to sustained consumer interest in two of its core models — the Amaze sedan and the Elevate SUV. Both vehicles have been the primary volume drivers for HCIL in the domestic market, and the company supported sales during the month through promotional campaigns and product offerings timed to the end of the financial year, a period that typically sees heightened purchasing activity across the auto sector.
Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Honda Cars India, said the company intends to expand its model lineup in the new fiscal year, with the introduction of its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) planned for the second half of the year. The announcement signals Honda's intent to participate in India's growing electric passenger vehicle segment, which has seen increasing competition from both domestic manufacturers and global players. In February, Behl had noted that the Honda City and Elevate recorded steady volumes aided by promotional campaigns, and that the company remained optimistic heading into the final month of the fiscal year.
Honda Cars India was established in December 1995 as a joint venture and has since grown into one of the established names in the country's premium passenger car segment. The company operates its manufacturing facility in Tapukara, Alwar district, Rajasthan, and has its corporate headquarters in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Its vehicles are marketed on the basis of fuel efficiency, reliability, and safety, and the company maintains a sales and distribution network across the country. In addition to new car sales, HCIL operates Honda Auto Terrace, a certified pre-owned car business that caters to buyers in the used vehicle market.
