Hindustan Zinc Launches 2026 Corrosion Awareness Drive

Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) has launched the 2026 edition of its annual corrosion awareness campaign, #ZungKeKhilaafZinc, timed around Corrosion Awareness Day on April 27. The initiative marks a shift from its earlier focus on industry education toward a broader, action-oriented outreach targeting both professionals and general consumers.

The campaign spans multiple formats. A three-day radio drive ran across Delhi and Mumbai, featuring a jingle aimed at car owners to illustrate how rust can quietly reduce vehicle safety and resale value. A parallel digital push across social media platforms showcased zinc galvanization's protective role in automotive parts, household fittings, power transmission poles, and public infrastructure. On the ground, Hindustan Zinc conducted a street-level vox pop series in Mumbai, gathering public perspectives on rust and corrosion responses that, the company said, revealed a notable gap in consumer awareness.

To centralise information, Hindustan Zinc also launched a dedicated Zinc Galvanization Information Hub on its website, hzlindia.com, offering accessible content for consumers, industry stakeholders, and policymakers on corrosion science and prevention methods.

CEO Arun Misra said the campaign is intended to shift public perception of corrosion from a narrow industrial concern to a broader everyday issue, noting that zinc galvanization is a proven and cost-effective method to extend asset life and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

Corrosion is estimated to cost economies close to 5% of GDP annually. Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company and the world's largest integrated zinc producer, holds approximately 74% of India's primary zinc market share and supplies to more than 40 countries.
