GreenLine Deploys LNG Truck Fleet for Bekaert's Logistics Operations

GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd. has partnered with Bekaert to deploy LNG-powered trucks for the tire reinforcement technology company's logistics operations. The initiative began with trucks stationed at Bekaert's Ranjangaon Plant as part of a pilot program designed to reduce the carbon footprint of the company's transportation activities.

Each LNG truck is projected to cut up to 24 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, according to GreenLine. This reduction aligns with Bekaert's stated goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and generating 65% of sales from sustainable solutions.

"Our partnership with Bekaert demonstrates the growing commitment of forward-thinking corporates to drive sustainability at scale," said Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine Mobility Solutions. "We offer not just green trucks, but an integrated ecosystem from LNG refuelling to real-time telematics."

Dinesh Mukhedkar, Procurement Operations Lead for South Asia at Bekaert, noted that decarbonizing logistics supports the company's commitment to environmental, social, and governance principles.

GreenLine, an Essar venture, has already accumulated over 40 million kilometers with its LNG truck fleet, reportedly preventing more than 10,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The company plans to expand to 10,000 LNG and electric vehicles alongside developing 100 LNG refueling stations, EV charging hubs, and battery swapping facilities across India.

The transportation sector represents a significant source of carbon emissions in India, with heavy commercial vehicles contributing substantially to air pollution in urban areas. The government has been promoting natural gas as a cleaner alternative to traditional fuels as part of its climate commitments.

LNG-powered trucks produce fewer particulate emissions and nitrogen oxides compared to diesel counterparts, while also generating less noise pollution. However, the broader adoption of LNG vehicles faces challenges including limited refueling infrastructure and higher initial investment costs.

For Bekaert, which employs 21,000 people globally and reported €4.0 billion in sales in 2024, this initiative forms part of its broader sustainability strategy. The Belgium-headquartered company specializes in steel wire transformation and coating technologies with applications in sustainable construction and energy transition sectors.

India has set ambitious targets for increasing the share of natural gas in its energy mix from the current 6% to 15% by 2030, with commercial transportation identified as a key area for reducing emissions.
