Greenfuel Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Lumax Auto Technologies Limited, has inaugurated a manufacturing facility for ferrule-less tubes and fittings at its Manesar plant, marking the first localisation of this technology in India.
The facility was commissioned by senior leadership from Maruti Suzuki India and represents an initial investment of ₹25 crore, with an additional ₹50 crore planned over the next four to five years. The production line has capacity to support approximately 100,000 vehicles, with commercial production scheduled to increase in phases based on customer requirements and market demand.
The ferrule-less tube and fitting technology, previously imported entirely, is designed for CNG vehicle applications. The torque-tightened system is engineered for mass production and aims to provide consistent assembly torque and repeatable quality standards. The localisation is expected to reduce costs by eliminating import duties, freight expenses, and foreign exchange exposure.
Deepak Jain, Director at Lumax Auto Technologies Limited, stated that the project accelerates technology transfer and strengthens domestic supply chains. Anmol Jain, Managing Director of Lumax Auto Technologies Limited, highlighted that the initiative improves operational efficiencies and enables faster validation cycles with original equipment manufacturer partners.
Akshay Kashyap, Managing Director and CEO of Greenfuel Energy Solutions, noted that the company has commenced supplies to a leading OEM and is receiving interest from others. The technology has been used by a German automotive manufacturer for over seven years and was indigenised in collaboration with WEH Gas Tech, a German partner with nearly two decades of association with Greenfuel.
The manufacturing line was sourced from Germany and adapted for Indian operating conditions. The localisation provides OEMs and fleet operators with reduced total cost of ownership, faster component access, and assured supply continuity.
In 2024, Lumax Auto Technologies acquired a 60% stake in Greenfuel Energy Solutions' alternate fuels business for ₹153.09 crore. The business reported revenues of ₹170 crore in the first half of the fiscal year and maintains an order book of approximately ₹200 crore.
Lumax Group operates across automotive lighting, transmission, structures, control systems, advanced plastics, mechatronics, and green and alternate fuels, with brand revenue of ₹10,045 crore for 2024-25. The group has 12 partnerships with global automotive companies and operates 16 entities across 42 locations in India.
Greenfuel specializes in high-pressure fuel delivery and storage systems for CNG and hydrogen vehicles, as well as fire and smoke alarm systems for the automotive industry.
