Gateway Distriparks Deploys Blue Energy Motors Electric Trucks for Freight Operations
The electric heavy-duty trucks will be used for first- and last-mile container movement from Gateway Distriparks’ Gurugram facility.
Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL) has deployed electric heavy-duty trucks supplied by Blue Energy Motors for commercial freight operations, as logistics companies increasingly explore electric vehicles for road-based cargo movement.
The trucks were flagged off at GDL’s inland container depot (ICD) at Garhi Harsaru in Gurugram and will be used for freight movement within the company’s transportation network. According to GDL, the vehicles will support first- and last-mile connectivity for container logistics.
Samvid Gupta, Joint Managing Director, Gateway Distriparks, said the company is adopting solutions that can support its environmental objectives while maintaining the reliability and efficiency required for its logistics operations.
“With the support of Blue Energy Motors and its charging ecosystem, Gateway Distriparks has deployed electric trailers for first and last mile connectivity, demonstrating the growing viability of electric trailers in container logistics,” Gupta said.
Anand Mimani, CEO – EV & New Energy, Blue Energy Motors, said the deployment would allow the company to work with fleet operators to assess the performance and operational requirements of electric trucks in commercial freight applications.
The deployment comes as electric vehicles are gradually being introduced into India’s heavy commercial vehicle and freight segments, where vehicle range, payload requirements, charging infrastructure and utilisation are key considerations for fleet operators.
Blue Energy Motors said its electric heavy-duty trucks have also operated on the Mumbai–Delhi NCR corridor. The company said these deployments are intended to demonstrate the use of electric trucks for longer-distance freight movement and gather operational experience under real-world conditions.
The adoption of electric trucks in freight operations is being supported by growing interest among logistics and fleet operators in reducing emissions from road transportation. However, the viability of electric heavy-duty vehicles depends on factors including the availability and location of charging infrastructure, vehicle acquisition costs, battery capacity, route characteristics and operating patterns.
GDL’s latest deployment adds electric heavy-duty vehicles to its existing logistics operations, although the company has not disclosed the number of trucks being deployed, their battery capacity, range, payload specifications or the proportion of its freight operations that will be handled by the electric fleet.
Blue Energy Motors said it currently has more than 1,400 green heavy-duty trucks operating on freight routes in India, covering more than 122 million kilometres. The company also said these vehicles have helped avoid more than 33,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The figures include the company’s broader portfolio of heavy-duty vehicles and are not specific to the latest GDL deployment.
