Electric Vehicle Retail Sales Rise 52.9% In August 2026

Electric vehicle retail sales rose 52.9% year-on-year to 2,98,448 units in August 2026, led by two-wheelers, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles.

Electric Vehicle Retail Sales Rise 52.9% In August 2026

Electric vehicle retail sales in India rose 52.9 percent year-on-year to 2,98,448 units in August 2026, according to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). EV penetration increased to 12.3 percent, from 9.5 percent in August 2025.

All four EV categories recorded year-on-year growth during the month. Electric two-wheelers accounted for the largest share of EV retail volumes, while electric three-wheelers continued to have the highest category-level penetration.

Electric commercial vehicle retail sales reached a record 4,702 units in August, up 188.3 percent from 1,631 units a year earlier. Their share of the commercial vehicle market increased to 5.18 percent, compared with 2.06 percent in August 2025.

Electric Two-Wheeler Retail Sales Rise 67%

Electric two-wheeler retail sales stood at 1,83,204 units in August 2026, an increase of 67.05 percent year-on-year. Sales, however, declined 10.35 percent from July's 2,04,362 units.

TVS Motor Company led the segment with 48,938 units, followed by Bajaj Auto with 41,114 units and Ather Energy with 28,757 units. Hero MotoCorp recorded 19,007 units, while Ola Electric registered 13,852 units.

Electric two-wheelers accounted for 10.7 percent of total two-wheeler retail sales in August, compared with 7.7 percent a year earlier.

Electric Three-Wheeler Sales Reach 79,846 Units

Electric three-wheeler retail sales increased 25.28 percent year-on-year to 79,846 units in August, although volumes declined 8.28 percent from July.

Bajaj Auto was the largest seller with 13,833 units, followed by Mahindra Group at 12,819 units. TVS Motor Company recorded 4,415 units.

Electric three-wheelers had a 65.3 percent market share in August, up from 56.6 percent in the same month last year.

Electric Passenger Vehicle Sales Increase 51.9%

Electric passenger vehicle retail sales rose 51.89 percent year-on-year to 30,696 units in August. Monthly sales declined 6.78 percent from 32,928 units in July.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles led the segment with 13,158 units, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra with 6,464 units and JSW MG Motor India with 4,622 units.

Electric passenger vehicles accounted for 7.6 percent of passenger vehicle retail sales in August, compared with 5.8 percent in August 2025.

Electric Commercial Vehicle Sales Record Highest August

Electric commercial vehicle retail sales more than doubled year-on-year, rising from 1,631 units in August 2025 to 4,702 units in August 2026. Sales were also 32.23 percent higher than the 3,556 units recorded in July.

Tata Motors led the category with 1,416 units, followed by Euler Motors with 849 units and Sany Heavy Industry India with 605 units. Mahindra Group recorded 360 units, while Olectra Greentech registered 315 units.

FADA said the August data was collated from 1,467 of 1,469 RTOs. Telangana data was not available for the electric commercial vehicle and three-wheeler categories.
