India’s electric commercial vehicle (eCV) retail segment recorded strong year-on-year growth in April 2026, although volumes declined sequentially compared to March, according to the latest retail data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).

Total electric commercial vehicle retail sales stood at 2,245 units in April 2026, registering a 148.9 per cent increase over 902 units sold in April 2025. However, volumes declined 8.70 per cent month-on-month from 2,459 units retailed in March 2026.

Despite the annual growth, the segment’s overall market penetration dipped marginally on a monthly basis. Electric commercial vehicles accounted for 2.26 per cent of total commercial vehicle retail sales in April 2026, compared to 2.40 per cent in March 2026. In April 2025, the share stood at 1.04 per cent.

The data was collated from 1,463 out of 1,466 RTOs as of May 3, 2026, with Telangana excluded from the dataset.

Tata Motors Retains Leadership

Tata Motors continued to lead the electric commercial vehicle retail market with 799 units sold in April 2026. The company recorded a 201.5 per cent year-on-year increase over 265 units sold in April 2025, although sales declined 7.52 per cent from 864 units in March 2026.

With this performance, Tata Motors retained the largest share of the electric CV retail market during the month.

Euler Motors Posts Sharpest Growth Among Top Players

Euler Motors emerged as one of the fastest-growing OEMs in the segment. The company retailed 518 units in April 2026, compared to just 38 units in April 2025, translating to a 1,263.2 per cent year-on-year increase.

On a month-on-month basis, Euler Motors also reported a 10.45 per cent increase from 469 units sold in March 2026, making it one of the few major OEMs to register sequential growth during the month.

Mahindra Records Steady Growth

Mahindra Group secured the third position with 285 units retailed in April 2026, up 69.6 per cent year-on-year from 168 units in April 2025. Sales also increased 6.34 per cent month-on-month from 268 units in March 2026.

The volumes were attributed entirely to Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd, while Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd did not record separate retail volumes in the dataset.

Switch Mobility and JBM Auto See a Sequential Decline

Switch Mobility Automotive retailed 144 units during April 2026. While this represented a 311.4 per cent increase compared to April 2025, the company saw a sharp 44.19 per cent decline from 258 units sold in March 2026.

JBM Auto also reported a significant sequential contraction. The company retailed 54 units in April 2026, down 72.45 per cent from 196 units in March 2026. On a yearly basis, however, sales were still up 35 per cent compared to April 2025.

PMI Electro Mobility Volumes Fall Year-on-Year

PMI Electro Mobility Solutions recorded 111 retail units in April 2026, down 41 per cent compared to 188 units in April 2025. Sequentially, the company’s sales also declined 9.76 per cent from 123 units sold in March 2026.

VE Commercial Vehicles reported relatively stable volumes at 38 units, marginally lower than 39 units sold a year earlier, translating to a 2.6 per cent decline year-on-year. Month-on-month, volumes increased 11.76 per cent from 34 units.

Emerging Players Expand Presence

Several smaller and emerging OEMs reported strong growth from a low base.

Tivolt Electric Vehicles retailed 83 units in April 2026, compared to 9 units in April 2025, registering an 822.2 per cent increase year-on-year.

Pinnacle Mobility Solutions recorded 54 units during the month, up 440 per cent from 10 units sold in April 2025 and 42.11 per cent higher than March 2026 volumes.

Energy In Motion retailed 34 units in April 2026 against 21 units in March 2026, while Aeroeagle Automobiles recorded 28 units, up from 22 units in the previous month. Since both companies did not report volumes in April 2025, year-on-year comparison figures were unavailable.

Market Share Remains Above 2 Percent

Although overall retail volumes softened sequentially in April, electric commercial vehicles continued to maintain a market share above the 2 percent mark.

The year-on-year growth reflects continued fleet electrification activity across last-mile logistics, passenger mobility and municipal transport applications, even as monthly demand patterns remain uneven across OEMs and operating segments.
