EKA Mobility, Chartered Speed to Deploy 1,750 Electric Buses in Bengaluru

EKA Mobility and Chartered Speed Limited have received confirmation to deploy 1,750 electric buses in Bengaluru under the Government of India's PM E-Drive Scheme, the companies announced on Tuesday.

The allocation represents approximately 39 percent of Bengaluru's planned induction of 4,500 electric buses under the scheme, marking one of the larger commitments toward the city's public transport electrification goals.

Bengaluru has been expanding its electric bus network through the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation as part of Karnataka's clean mobility strategy and the central government's decarbonization initiatives.

The deployment will combine Chartered Speed's operational experience in passenger mobility services with EKA Mobility's electric vehicle manufacturing capabilities. Chartered Speed operates a fleet of over 2,000 buses serving more than 350,000 passengers daily across six states.

Rohit Srivastava, Business Head and Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, stated that the initiative supports India's electric mobility objectives and urban transport transformation. He emphasized the focus on creating sustainable solutions for daily commuters.

Sanyam Gandhi, Whole-Time Director at Chartered Speed Limited, noted that the company aims to convert approximately 25 percent of its fleet to electric by fiscal year 2027. He highlighted the company's infrastructure investments to support electric operations.

Chartered Speed has implemented safety protocols for its electric vehicle operations, including preventive maintenance, battery health monitoring, and specialized driver training programs.

Earlier in 2025, Chartered Speed was awarded deployment of over 1,000 electric buses under the Pradhan Mantri e-Bus Sewa Scheme, adding to its electric mobility portfolio.

EKA Mobility operates as an automotive and technology company with equity partners including Pinnacle Industries Limited, Mitsui Co., Ltd. of Japan, and VDL Groep of the Netherlands. The company focuses on commercial vehicle electric mobility solutions.

Chartered Speed Limited, established in 2010, provides inter-city and intra-city passenger transportation services with technology integrations including GPS tracking and CCTV systems.
