Energy In Motion Limited (EIM) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sorigin Green Mobility Private Limited to deploy 500 electric heavy commercial vehicles (e-HCVs) across India over two years. The programme will focus on cargo-intensive freight corridors, including the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) ecosystem.
Under the proposed partnership, EIM will supply its Ashwa 55-tonne electric tractors, supported by charging infrastructure, battery-swapping networks and energy-management solutions. The deployment will target routes with high cargo movement, where vehicle utilisation, energy costs and operational efficiency are key considerations.
Implementation is expected to begin immediately, with an initial deployment of 18 electric heavy commercial vehicles within the JNPA ecosystem.
EIM To Supply 55-Tonne Electric Tractors And Energy Infrastructure
The partnership will combine EIM's electric heavy-duty vehicles with supporting energy infrastructure to address operational requirements such as vehicle turnaround time, utilisation and energy costs.
EIM Managing Director Narendra Murkumbi said the deployment would combine electric tractors with charging infrastructure, battery-swapping solutions and energy-management capabilities. He noted that Sorigin Green Mobility is an existing customer of the company.
Sorigin Green Mobility Director Gautam Rekhi and Co-Founder Aarav Tanti said the company would handle fleet financing, deployment, operations and maintenance. Its service model allows customers to pay for freight moved rather than make upfront capital investments in vehicles.
The company also stated that it already operates EIM electric tractors at Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Tuticorin Container Terminal, providing an operational base for the proposed expansion.
Sorigin To Manage Fleet Operations And Maintenance
Sorigin Green Mobility operates as an OEM-agnostic electric trucking platform, managing 55-tonne electric trucks under long-term contracts for ports and heavy industries.
Its offering includes vehicles and trailers, trained drivers, on-site supervision, maintenance, uptime management and charging arrangements through battery swapping or on-site infrastructure. The company also provides connected-fleet services covering vehicle tracking and emissions reporting.
The proposed 500-vehicle programme will extend the use of electric heavy commercial vehicles across freight and industrial supply chains, with the JNPA ecosystem serving as the starting point.
