Dürr Completes Paint Shop for Vietnam's First Škoda Production Facility

Dürr has completed a turnkey paint shop project for Thanh Cong Group's new automobile manufacturing facility in Quang Ninh, Vietnam, enabling the production of the first Škoda vehicles in the country.

The Thanh Cong Viet Hung (TCVH) plant, covering 36.5 hectares, has an annual production capacity of up to 120,000 vehicles. The facility will manufacture Škoda Kushaq and Škoda Slavia models, with Phase I designed for 13 jobs per hour, expandable to 20 jobs per hour in Phase II.

The project, completed in 18 months from contract signing in November 2023 to final acceptance in July 2025, faced challenges including global supply chain disruptions, maritime transport fluctuations, and extreme weather events. The facility's proximity to Haiphong port facilitates the import of completely knocked down kits from Pune, India.

Dürr equipped the paint shop with advanced technology, including the electrically driven RoDip E system for pretreatment and electrocoating. The system uses freely programmable trolleys with independent horizontal and rotating movement controls, allowing different dip curves for various vehicle models to enhance coating quality and energy efficiency.

The paint shop features a cost-saving design where primer and clear coat are applied in the same spray booth. The delivery scope includes sealing lines, seven painting robots, ovens, and a hot wax line.

TC Motors awarded Dürr China the "Excellent Supplier" title for the project's execution. Wang Shuo, Project Manager at Dürr Paint Shop Systems Engineering (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., attributed the success to collaboration between Dürr China, Dürr Vietnam, and TC Group teams.

The TCVH plant supports the Vietnamese government's initiative to establish a modern automotive industrial complex in Quang Ninh. The facility is positioned to serve as a distribution hub for Škoda vehicles across Southeast Asia while contributing to local economic development through job creation and skills training.

Dürr has maintained a presence in India since 1997 and currently employs approximately 680 staff in the region. The company operates four divisions: Automotive, Industrial Automation, Woodworking, and Clean Technology Systems Environmental. In 2024, the Dürr Group generated sales of €4.7 billion with around 18,300 employees across 139 locations in 33 countries.
