Delhi Metros' economical last mile e-rickshaws push clean mobility
Fifty e-rickshaws manufactured by Piaggio India have been pressed into service by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as part of its clean mobility push across eight stations in the state capital’s Dwarka area.
Fifty e-rickshaws manufactured by Piaggio India have been pressed into service by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as part of its clean mobility push across eight stations in the state capital’s Dwarka area. At a base price of Rs 10 for the first two kilometres and Rs 5 for every additional kilometre, the DMRC is hoping that the last mile problems of Delhi Metro users will be solved in an economical as well as environmentally friendly way.
For the rickshaw drivers to get continuous charging options, the DMRC has tied up with Sun Mobility for swappable battery solutions, in addition to the 12 charging stations that are already present at DMRC premises.
The DMRC and Sun Mobility officials jointly flagged off this new fleet. “The swappable battery solutions have increased affordability and accessibility for all our stakeholders,” said Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC.
DMRC further announced its permission to Sun Mobility to use land at Janakpuri West, Dwarka and Dwarka Sec-21 metro stations to set up parking and battery-swapping facilities for its fleet.
Anant Badjatya, CEO of SUN Mobility said that such a collaboration between mass rapid transit provider, EV OEM, a charging infrastructure operator, and a fleet operator exemplifies “how multi-modal transport could go green in India through a PPP model.”
