Delhi Government Introduces DEVi Electric Bus Fleet for Improved Connectivity

The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi has introduced the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi) initiative, deploying a fleet of advanced electric buses to improve last-mile connectivity between metro stations and major bus terminals. The initiative, flagged off by Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, aligns with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to enhance urban mobility through sustainable transportation solutions.

The launch event saw the presence of Union Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, along with other key government dignitaries. The newly introduced fleet aims to provide environment-friendly and efficient public transport while addressing connectivity challenges that commuters have faced over the past decade.

In the first phase, 400 DEVi buses have been deployed in East and West Delhi, covering areas such as Ghazipur, Vinod Nagar East, and Nangloi. Each bus features 23 seats, including six reserved exclusively for women, and space for 13 standing passengers. The fare structure ranges between ₹10 and ₹25, while women commuters can travel free of cost. The buses will operate at 10-minute intervals, ensuring frequent and reliable service for urban travelers.

The DEVi fleet is integrated with Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) technologies, offering features such as GPS tracking, automatic passenger counting, digital route displays, voice announcements, CCTV surveillance, panic buttons, wheelchair ramps, and knee-down flooring for improved accessibility. The initiative is expected to streamline urban travel and promote sustainable mobility in the city.
