Daimler India Commercial Vehicles to Anchor New Regional Structure Spanning 42 Countries

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has been designated as the anchor entity for a newly formed customer region within the Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment of Daimler Truck, announced at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany.

The new region — named ISEAA, for India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific — consolidates markets that were previously managed independently into a single customer-facing structure. It spans 42 countries and a combined population of approximately 2.8 billion people. DICV, which manufactures BharatBenz trucks and buses from its facility in Oragadam near Chennai, will serve as the regional headquarters entity.

The restructuring places India at the center of a framework that also encompasses Mercedes-Benz Trucks' operations across South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific. The move reflects DICV's role as a manufacturing, engineering and export base within the Daimler Truck global network.

Regional Structure and Rationale

Mercedes-Benz Trucks, one of Daimler Truck's four global segments, operates under four customer regions: Europe, LAMEA (Latin America, Middle East and Africa), China, and the newly established ISEAA. The consolidation of the ISEAA markets is intended to enable closer customer engagement and faster decision-making across the region.

Commercial vehicle demand across the ISEAA region is projected to grow at more than 5% annually, according to Daimler Truck.

Torsten Schmidt, CEO and Managing Director of DICV, who also serves as President of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks Customer Region ISEAA, said the new structure is designed to bring the markets into closer collaboration. "DICV serves as the anchor entity for the region, building on its established strengths in manufacturing, engineering and exports," he said.

Since beginning operations, DICV has exported more than 75,000 trucks and buses and over 330 million parts to more than 70 markets. The company also supplies medium-duty transmissions from its Chennai facility to Daimler Truck plants in Germany.

Investment and Manufacturing

Alongside the regional announcement, DICV reaffirmed a previously announced additional investment of approximately ₹4,000 crore in Tamil Nadu, made under a non-binding facilitation MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu. This takes the company's cumulative investment in India to more than ₹14,500 crore.

The funds are earmarked for manufacturing capacity, research and development infrastructure and future technologies. DICV currently operates with 92% localization and is supported by more than 400 local suppliers.

The company operates a 400-acre integrated manufacturing and R&D facility at Oragadam, employs more than 4,000 people and has delivered more than 230,000 BharatBenz trucks and buses in India since the brand's commercial launch in 2012.

Product and Safety Technology

DICV said it is preparing its truck and bus portfolio with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibrated for Indian operating conditions, ahead of upcoming regulatory requirements. The company is also extending the availability of its Torqshift Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) technology — first introduced in the construction and mining segment — across a broader range of BharatBenz models.

The company describes Torqshift as a technology developed and used in hundreds of thousands of Daimler Truck heavy-duty vehicles globally, adapted for Indian duty cycles.

Customer and Service Network

DICV's digital fleet management platform, TruckConnect, provides operators with vehicle performance monitoring and connected fleet management tools.

The company's Rakshana service assurance programme currently services and delivers more than 98% of vehicles within 48 hours. DICV plans to expand its nationwide service network from 430 touchpoints to 600 by 2030, with a focus on northern, eastern and north-eastern India.

DICV was established in 2009 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG. BharatBenz trucks are available in the 10 to 55 tonne range; the bus portfolio covers school, staff and intercity applications.
