Clean Electric has unveiled a universal rapid charging system for light electric vehicles (LEVs) at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. Built on the Standardized Open Network Type-6 BIS Approved Charging Standard, the technology offers 15-minute charging and aims to address barriers to EV adoption in India, including charging speed and infrastructure compatibility.
The company announced partnerships with OEMs Bounce and Omega Seiki Mobility to integrate the technology into their electric vehicles. Bounce will incorporate the system into its electric two-wheelers, offering a range of 60–80 km with 15–20 minutes of charging. Omega Seiki Mobility plans to deploy it in its electric three-wheelers, delivering a 125 km range in 15 minutes, and a 7-ton electric truck with similar rapid charging capabilities.
The charging system is set to enter mass production in March 2025, with deployment planned at standardized public charging stations nationwide. Clean Electric is collaborating with OEMs to ensure seamless integration into vehicles, aiming to reduce operational challenges for consumers and commercial operators alike.
Akash Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of Clean Electric, stated that the technology aims to accelerate EV adoption by improving charging convenience and accessibility. Vivekananda Hallekere, Co-founder and CEO of Bounce, emphasized that rapid and interoperable charging would simplify the transition to electric mobility. Uday Narang, Founder of Omega Seiki Mobility, highlighted its potential to maximize uptime and performance for commercial EVs.
The introduction of this system aligns with India’s goal of achieving 80% EV penetration in the LEV segment by 2030. The country has seen significant EV growth in two-wheeler and three-wheeler categories, though challenges like fragmented charging standards and limited rapid charging infrastructure persist. Clean Electric’s innovation seeks to address these issues, providing a scalable and interoperable solution for the industry.
By enabling faster charging and reducing downtime, the technology benefits not only consumers but also charge point operators by increasing station utilization and revenue potential. As India moves toward broader EV adoption, Clean Electric’s system represents a significant step in building a more cohesive and efficient EV ecosystem.
