ChargeJet Launches App-Free EV Charging Across India

Jaipur-based startup ChargeJet has introduced a QR-code-based charging feature that lets EV owners scan, pay via UPI, and start charging without downloading an app, creating an account, or maintaining a wallet balance.

ChargeJet, a Jaipur-based ultra-fast electric vehicle charging network, has launched an App-Free Charging feature that allows EV owners across India to charge their vehicles without installing a mobile application.

To use the feature, drivers connect the charging gun, scan a QR code on the charger, and complete payment through UPI or another digital payment method. Charging starts once payment is processed, without requiring an app download, account setup, or wallet balance.

The company said the feature is modelled on the widespread use of QR-based payments in India, aiming to apply a familiar digital habit to public EV charging. Traditional charging networks typically require users to register, verify their identity, and load funds before their first session, a process the company says can discourage first-time users, particularly those in urgent need of a charge.

According to ChargeJet, the key benefits of the feature include instant QR-based access without prior registration, secure processing through established digital payment gateways, no app installation, no requirement to maintain a wallet balance, and reduced time between arrival and the start of a charging session.

The launch comes as India's EV market continues to expand, supported by rising fuel prices, environmental considerations, and government initiatives such as the FAME India programme. Industry observers have pointed to the complexity of public charging infrastructure, including app-based onboarding, as a recurring obstacle to broader EV adoption.
