BYD launches EV competition for Indian engineering students

With a view to foster innovation in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, BYD India, a subsidiary of global NEV leader BYD, has announced the launch of the BYD EV INNOVATE-A-THON. This initiative, developed in partnership with the Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC), aims to inspire and challenge engineering students across India to contribute to the future of sustainable transportation.

The competition will unfold in three stages: an initial online quiz, followed by a digital prototype round, and culminating in a physical prototype creation and sales pitch. This structure is designed to test participants' theoretical knowledge, digital design skills, and practical application abilities.

Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles (EPV) Business at BYD India, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We are thrilled to launch the BYD EV Innovate-A-Thon in India, a country brimming with young innovators who are creating solutions for a better future." He emphasized the initiative's alignment with BYD's mission of technological innovation for improved quality of life.

The competition offers substantial rewards for top performers. The winning team will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to BYD's headquarters in Shenzhen, China, where they will meet with technology and sustainability experts. Runner-up teams will be awarded cash prizes and trophies.

F R Singhvi, President of ASDC, welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to inspire an innovative mindset among students and prepare them for creating a sustainable future.

This program comes at a time when BYD is expanding its presence in the Indian market. The company recently introduced new variants of its ATTO3 model and has been recognized as one of the top 10 global automotive brands in the Kantar BrandZ Most Valuable Global Brands 2024 report.

The BYD EV INNOVATE-A-THON represents a significant step in bridging academia and industry in the EV sector. By investing in young talent, BYD aims to accelerate innovation and drive the transition to sustainable transportation in India and beyond.
