Blackbuck Electric Vehicles has unveiled the ELON 3X, a 15-metre multi-axle electric sleeper coach designed for long-distance intercity transportation. The vehicle features 42 sleeper berths and is offered with two battery configurations of 425 kWh and 565 kWh. Commercial production is targeted to begin in mid-2027, with reservations now open.
Developed entirely in-house in India, the ELON 3X is built on the company's Born-Electric Skateboard Architecture, a platform designed specifically for electric mobility rather than adapted from a conventional diesel-powered vehicle. The three-axle configuration is intended to accommodate higher passenger and luggage capacity while addressing ride comfort and highway stability requirements.
The coach offers more than 9 cubic metres of dedicated luggage space, in addition to its 42 sleeper berths and provisions for a driver and co-driver. The configuration is designed to address luggage requirements associated with long-distance intercity bus operations.
ELON 3X features two battery configurations
The ELON 3X integrates its structural design, electric propulsion, energy storage and electrical systems into a unified vehicle platform. Blackbuck EV says its lightweight architecture has been developed to optimise energy efficiency while supporting passenger capacity and vehicle durability.
The two battery configurations – 425 kWh and 565 kWh – are intended to cater to different long-distance operating requirements. The company has not disclosed the vehicle's driving range, charging specifications or pricing in the announcement.
Independent suspension and safety systems
The electric sleeper coach features independent suspension with active tag-axle steering, alongside Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS). The configuration is designed to improve ride comfort, highway handling and low-speed manoeuvrability.
Standard safety equipment includes an Electronic Braking System (EBS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and disc brakes on all wheels.
Blackbuck EV says the ELON 3X has undergone four years of engineering and product development, including two years of real-world road testing. The testing programme covered handling, stability, ride comfort, system integration and durability under actual road conditions.
The vehicle has been engineered with reference to European automotive standards and international design practices. Its development involved in-house vehicle architecture, structural engineering and system integration, alongside collaborations with international automotive suppliers.
Reservations open, production targeted for mid-2027
Blackbuck EV has opened reservations for the ELON 3X and is engaging with prospective intercity transport operators ahead of its market introduction. Commercial production is targeted for mid-2027.
Commenting on the vehicle's development, R K Raju, founder and CEO of Blackbuck Electric Vehicles, said the company had developed the coach around a purpose-built electric platform, with a focus on passenger comfort, operator economics and energy efficiency.
