Audi A2 e-tron Unveiled with Up to 646km WLTP Range

Audi has unveiled the A2 e-tron, its smallest electric vehicle yet. The new hatchback is designed with a strong focus on efficiency and offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 646km. The A2 e-tron is based on Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, which also underpins models such as the Volkswagen ID.3, Skoda Elroq and Audi Q4 e-tron. The new EV also revives the A2 nameplate, previously used for Audi’s compact, efficiency-focused hatchback sold between 1999 and 2005.

Audi A2 e-tron: Battery and Motor Options

The A2 e-tron is available with four electric motor outputs, ranging from 168hp to 322hp, while torque figures range from 350Nm to 545Nm. All versions use a rear-wheel-drive layout.

There are three battery capacities on offer – 52kWh, 61kWh and 84kWh. The smaller battery packs use LFP chemistry, while the 84kWh unit uses NMC chemistry.

The 228hp version with the 84kWh battery has the longest claimed range at 646km. Audi says the A2 e-tron is its most efficient model yet, with consumption of 12.8kWh/100km when equipped with the optional Efficiency Package.

Audi A2 e-tron: Charging

The 84kWh battery supports 183kW DC charging, taking a claimed 29 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent. The 52kWh battery supports up to 100kW and takes 24 minutes for the same charging window, while the 61kWh pack supports 105kW and takes 26 minutes.

Audi A2 e-tron: Aerodynamic Design

The A2 e-tron has a rounded silhouette inspired by the original A2, with much of its exterior shaped around reducing aerodynamic drag. Audi claims a drag coefficient of 0.24.

The front-end incorporates the headlights and ADAS sensors into the closed-off section, while slim DRLs sit above them. The underside is largely covered, and the wheel arches feature gap reducers to improve airflow around the wheels. The aero-focused approach continues with specially designed wheels and wing-shaped door handles. At the rear, the sloping roofline flows into a spoiler, while horizontal tail-lights flank Audi’s four-ring logo.

Audi A2 e-tron: Interior and Features

The A2 e-tron gets a relatively minimalist cabin, with recycled fabric used extensively. The dashboard is simpler than those of Audi’s larger models, while several functions have been moved away from the centre console. The cabin features an 11.9-inch digital driver’s display and a 12.8-inch central touchscreen. Audi has also introduced haptic touch controls for the door handles and a new stalk arrangement first seen on the Q3. Standard audio comes from a seven-speaker system, while a 14-speaker Sonos setup is available as an option. A head-up display showing information such as speed, navigation and audio details is also offered.

The Audi A2 e-tron is built at the company’s Ingolstadt plant in Germany and has been developed primarily with European customers in mind. Prices start at 38,200 euros, equivalent to around Rs 41.92 lakh at the time of writing.
