Alternate fuels to be the focus at 8th edition of NGV India Summit in July

As India pushes towards its ambitious net-zero emissions target by 2070, the 8th edition of the NGV India Summit -- focused on emerging fuel technologies -- is scheduled to take place on July 11-12, at the NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi.

Under the theme "Navigating India's Clean Mobility Transition," the summit comes at a time when India, like many nations, is grappling with the environmental impact of conventional vehicles. The transportation sector remains a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, heavily reliant on petroleum-based fuels.

In response, India has been steadily adopting natural gas vehicles (NGVs) as part of a broader strategy to diversify its energy mix and reduce dependence on petroleum imports. The global demand for compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 10.9% between 2023 and 2033, indicating a strong market trend towards this cleaner fuel alternative.

The Indian government has set an ambitious target to increase the share of natural gas in the country's energy mix from the current 6% to 15% by 2030. To achieve this, India is eyeing investments of USD 4.95 million from gas companies to develop a robust supply chain and expand natural gas infrastructure, particularly in the north-eastern states and northern federal territories.

The NGV India Summit, organized by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India, will feature a series of curated sessions covering crucial topics in the clean mobility sector, including hydrogen and ethanol. Sessions will be held on topics such as India's multi-fuel roadmap, the vision for a gas-based economy, hydrogen infrastructure development, CNG economics, opportunities in ethanol production, government schemes for flex-fuel vehicles, and progress on biogas projects.

The event will bring together experts from various government ministries, state transport entities, gas marketing companies, automotive manufacturers, and industry associations. Their discussions will focus on opportunities, potential synergies, and solutions to challenges in India's clean mobility transition.

The conference is expected to attract a diverse range of attendees, including representatives from the electrolyser and fuel cell manufacturing sectors, oil marketing companies, automotive OEMs, technology solution providers, and various other stakeholders in the energy and transportation industries.

As India navigates the complex landscape of clean mobility, events like the NGV India Summit play a crucial role in fostering dialogue, sharing knowledge, and driving innovation.
