Toyota has released the first set of pictures and details of the all-new ninth-generation Camry sedan. The new Camry sports a fresh design inside out, gets more features and now comes with a petrol-hybrid powertrain only.

New Toyota Camry: new yet quite familiar
The ninth-generation Camry will go on sale internationally next year, starting with the North American market where it continues to be one of the most popular cars. While Toyota says that this is an all-new sedan, it looks quite similar to the outgoing model from some angles, and it sits on the same TNGA-K platform as the previous-gen Camry

As far as styling goes, the new Camry gets Toyota's signature "hammerhead" front styling with thin daytime-running lights that bring it more in line with other newer models like the Crown sedan and the latest-gen Prius. Meanwhile, the new Camry's interior sees a major revamp with a completely new dashboard layout replete with two digital screens. The instrumentation is relayed via a 7-inch screen and infotainment duties are done via a 12.3-inch touchscreen system, while lower variants get an 8-inch unit. Higher variants will also get a JBL sound system, heads-up display, a digital key and a few other tech-related features.

New Toyota Camry: powertrain options
The new ninth-gen Camry does away with the V6 engine and gets a sole petrol-hybrid powertrain – a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors with a combined output of 225hp. The Camry hybrid AWD gets an additional motor for the rear axle, giving it a total output of 232hp. Just like many other Toyota models, an eCVT gearbox does the shifting duties for the Camry’s hybrid powertrain.

And while there won't be more powertrain choices, customers will get different suspension setups, depending on the variant, according to Toyota.

New Toyota Camry: safety
The new Camry continues to get multiple airbags as standard, in addition to Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 bundle, which includes ADAS features like a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, automatic high beams, among others.

New Toyota Camry: India launch details
The current-gen Camry recently got a major update for India and continues to sell in decent numbers. The new-gen model won’t come to India anytime soon and a market launch can be only expected in the second half of next year.
