Volkswagen Passenger Cars India has announced the start of production and also opened pre-bookings for the Taigun SUV. Built on the MQB A0 IN platform, the first made-in-India Taigun rolled out from the Chakan plant in Pune today.

The Volkswagen Taigun is specifically designed for the Indian market with up to 95 percent localisation levels at launch. With deliveries beginning in September, all customers can now pre-book the Taigun across Volkswagen online and offline retail platforms.

The Taigun is closely related to the recently launched Skoda Kushaq, with the midsize SUVs being the first models to come from the Volkswagen Group’s ambitious India 2.0 programme.

The first product from Volkswagen under the India 2.0 project, the Taigun will retain the brand’s DNA of superior build quality, safety and a fun-to-drive experience. The bold, dynamic and German-engineered Volkswagen Taigun sports striking exteriors, premium interiors, digital cockpit, modern and convenient infotainment systems. The Taigun is spacious and keeps the occupants and those outside the vehicle safe and secure.

Commenting on the announcement, Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India said, “Today, we embark on a journey that marks a significant milestone for Volkswagen, with the start of production of the Taigun. A thoroughbred Volkswagen, the Taigun retains the German engineering prowess, while achieving a localisation level of up to 95 percent. The Taigun has been designed to meet the needs of the discerning Indian customer and will be a competitive product offering in the fast-growing mid-size SUV segment.”

Volkswagen now offers its TSI technology across its product line-up, offering customers the right mix of power and performance while being fuel efficient. Taigun will be offered with the following engine and gearbox combinations: 1.5L TSI mated to 7-speed DSG and 6-speed Manual gearbox and 1.0L TSI engine mated to a 6-speed Automatic and Manual gearbox.
