October 7, 2013: VIT University, Vellore has extended its MoU with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and Cummins India, both located in Pune, to offer a post-graduate programme (M Tech) in engine technology for the engineers of Cummins. An event was organised to celebrate the successful completion of the degree for the first batch.

During the MoU signing ceremony held in Pune, Dr S Narayanan, pro-vice chancellor of VIT University, remarked that the vehicle density on Indian roads has increased manifold during the last decade. Hence, he urged engineers who have successfully completed the M Tech programme, to come up with better solutions for safety and emission control.

Shrikant Marathe, director of ARAI, and Paul Sowerby, chief technical officer of Cummins, expressed their satisfaction on the quality of the programme and said that the engineers of this programme are now equipped with the latest knowledge to design and develop modern-day high performance engines. Dr K C Vora, deputy director of ARAI, said that Six Sigma is being applied to this programme to continuously enhance the quality of the programme in terms of syllabus, contents, assessment and feedback.

Dr A Senthil Kumar, dean, The School of Mechanical and Building Sciences (SMBS) of VIT University, and senior executives of ARAI and Cummins were among those who attended the event.
