New Delhi, February 7, 2013: A clutch of UK-based companies are taking part at the first ever ACMA-Automechanika trade fair which opened today in the capital.
Under the aegis of The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the companies include Allmakes ,which is a wholesaler of parts and accessories for Land Rover vehicles, Mini Gears, which makes precision gears, Motive Components, and Primalec, whose products detect fluid leaks in motor vehicles , engines, coolant, fuel and hydraulic systems and in air-conditioning installations as well.
Also participating are Ranger Stork, Scorpion Automotive and Turbo Technics. While Ranger Stork is involved in the wholesale distribution of tyre repair products and products catering to commercial vehicles, buses and off-roaders, Scorpion Automotive specialises in the manufacture of vehicle security systems. Turbo Technics is engaged in the design and manufacture of turbochargers, replacement turbochargers and specialist machinery.
According to SMMT, growing interest in UK automotive engineering has seen over six billion pounds of investments committed to UK facilities. In this context, it may be worth mentioning that the Tata Group is one of the UK’s largest employers with jobs estimated at over 25,000. The Group’s automotive arm, represented by Jaguar land Rover has seen its highest ever sales in 2012.
SMMT’s role in UK’s auto industry
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) exists to support and promote the interests of the UK automotive industry at home and overseas. Around 1.5 million cars and commercial vehicles and three million engines are produced annually in the UK, accounting for 9 percent of the UK’s total exports. With an annual turnover of 40 billion and a workforce of over 700,000 people, the UK is a key global player within the automotive sector and the industry is a significant contributor to the UK’s economy.
