TVS targets 1,500 Jupiter sales per month in Karnataka
Bangalore, September 23, 2013: TVS Motor Company has said it is targeting monthly sales of 1,500 units of the recently launched Jupiter scooter in the Karnataka market.
Bangalore, September 23, 2013: TVS Motor Company has said it is targeting monthly sales of 1,500 units of the recently launched Jupiter scooter in the Karnataka market. The vehicle is priced at Rs 48,712 (ex-showroom Bangalore).
Talking to Autocar Professional, J S Srinivasan, vice-president -- sales, said the overall scooter market in Karnataka stands at around 25,000 units per month, of which TVS has a market share of 16 percent (3,500 units).
He added: “Our overall scooter sales in Karnataka are expected to increase to 5,000 units per month in Karnataka by next January. This will take up our scooter market share to 20 percent in the state.”
TVS is hopeful of selling around 6,000 units of the Jupiter every month in South India alone. Since the vehicle’s launch on September 16, the company has dispatched around 5,000 Jupiters to its dealerships across the country. For September 2013, TVS has targeted nationwide sales of 10,000 Jupiter scooters.
At present, the scooter market in India sees sales of around 280,000 units a month, of which TVS has a market share of 12.5 percent with around 34,000 units. Srinivasan said with the Jupiter scooter, the company aims to increase its scooter sales to 50,000 units per month and market share to 18 percent in the long term.
TVS has around 850 primary dealerships across India including 70 dealers in Karnataka. It also has 2,700 sub- dealers. It is likely to add another 50 primary dealers in the current fiscal.
TVS sold a total of 1,771,412 two-wheelers in the domestic market in 2012-13, down 6.55 percent over sales in 2011-12. Srinivasan said the company expects to notch aims to increase its two wheeler sales by 10 percent to 2,000,000 units in 2013-14.
