TVS reveals stop-start tech, uses it on flagship Jupiter scooter
TVS IntelliGO debuts on the Jupiter, making it the first 110cc scooter to have this intelligent Stop & Go technology
Here’s a fuel-saving move that should draw buyers in today’s times of wallet-busting petrol prices. TVS Motor Company has introduced stop-start technology – called TVS intelliGO.
According to the company, “TVS intelliGO enhances the riding comfort, mileage and reduces emissions by intelligently switching off the engine during long idling like traffic signals and other transient stops. The vehicle is ready to go by a simple throttle rev which enhances convenience. The technology also helps avoid fuel wastage during these stops and reduces emissions.”
TVS IntelliGo technology will debut on the company’s flagship TVS Jupiter, thus making it the first 110cc scooter in the industry to come with this technology.
Aniruddha Haldar, Vice-President (Marketing) – Commuter Motorcycles, Scooters & Corporate Brand, TVS Motor Company said, “TVS Motor Company has been at the forefront of introducing technological advancements backed by customer insight. TVS intelliGO is a testimony to our philosophy of listening to our customers, understanding their needs, and innovating our products to provide an unmatched product experience. This intelligent Stop & Go technology is significant for our consumers through its dual impact of reducing fuel costs and emissions.”
The TVS Jupiter is equipped with Ecothrust Fuel injection (ET-Fi) technology which is claimed to provide 15% better mileage, better starts, refinement, and durability. The Jupiter's highlights include LED headlamp, 2-litre glovebox, mobile charger and 21-litre fuel tank. The adjustable shock absorbers further enhance riding convenience. The Jupiter’s 110cc engine develops 5.5 kW at 7000rpm while producing a maximum torque of 8.4 Nm at 5500rpm.
The TVS Jupiter, equipped with the new stop-start technology,, is priced at Rs 72,347 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Every fifth scooter sold in India is a TVS product
TVS has is having a good run in the ongoing fiscal. Powering TVS numbers is its flagship Jupiter, which sold 379,119 units in April-December 2020 and accounted for 59.50% of total sales. The snazzy NTorq with 172,319 units contributed to 27% sales.
Now with this fuel-saving technology in a time of extremely high fuel prices, the Jupiter should see speedier sales. Expect TVS intelliGO to go on other TVS products over a period of time.
